I am quite surprised at myself. From the beginning of my "resurfacing," I have been finding and discussing narratives exclusively. I have been completely neglecting the works of contemporary playwrights!I decided to do a small amount of research on the most recent theatrical productions, and was drawn to visit a brilliant Boulevard in New York City called Broadway. I stayed and watched as many varying productions as I could, and I have two things to say about Broadway: The production value is phenomenal. The literary value is not.
I must commend the thespians who traverse the Broadway stages. They have boundless talent and preform feats that the thespians in my day would never dream of accomplishing. The stories that these thespians work so hard to preform, however, are mostly poor. The storylines are much more complex and harder for people to understand and follow along to. I suppose the styles of storytelling have changed through the years, but I will still always prefer a simple story with the complexities lying in the undertones. The beauty and poetry of theatre is the ability to take the audience on a journey. The journey will never be worth it if it's difficult to follow.
